About GageRef
GageRef is a free technical reference site built for people who work with their hands.
If you have ever searched for E7018 amperage settings on your phone while standing in a shop, or tried to identify a hydraulic fitting by measuring threads with calipers, this site is for you.
The problem we solve: welding specifications and fitting data are scattered across manufacturer PDFs, forum threads, and ad-heavy blog posts. The information exists, but finding it quickly when you need it is harder than it should be.
What we publish: electrode and wire specifications with per-diameter amperage data, side-by-side comparisons, and hydraulic fitting thread dimensions with cross-reference charts. Every data point traces back to a published standard (AWS A5.1, A5.18, A5.20, SAE J514, ISO 8434).
What we do not publish: sponsored content, paid reviews, or manufacturer-influenced recommendations. Our specifications and comparisons are based solely on published standards and technical data.
How We Make Money
Some pages include affiliate links to retailers like Amazon. If you buy through those links, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the site free and ad-free.
Affiliate relationships never influence our data or recommendations. Amperage values come from AWS standards. Comparison guidance comes from the technical properties of each product. We recommend the same electrode whether you buy it through our link or not.
Data Sources
Welding specifications are sourced from American Welding Society (AWS) standards and verified against manufacturer technical data sheets from Lincoln Electric, Hobart, ESAB, and Pinnacle Alloys.
Hydraulic fitting data is sourced from SAE International (J514, J1926), ISO (8434, 6149), and BSI (BS 5200) standards.
Amperage ranges are compiled from multiple manufacturer recommendations and represent approximate starting values. Always adjust for your specific equipment, position, and material.
